Dr. Nierman received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1978. He completed a surgical internship and residency in 1980 at the Boston University Medical Center. In 1983, he completed a urology residency at the same facility. Dr. Nierman was certified by the American Board of Urology in 1985 and recertified in 1994 and 2005.

In addition to his private practice, Dr. Nierman was also an attending teaching physician at the Boston Medical Center in Boston, MA. He is a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society, the American Urological Association, the Massachusetts Association of Practicing Urologists, the American Association of Clinical Urologists and the Boston Urological Society.
